Economic relations between the United Arab Emirates and Italy are witnessing rapid growth, driven by a strategic vision aimed at channeling investments into vital sectors and enhancing economic integration between the two countries.
The UAE’s announcement of a $40 billion investment in the Italian market over the coming years reflects deep mutual trust and lays the foundation for a sustainable partnership spanning industries such as advanced technology, artificial intelligence, energy, defense, transportation, space, and mining.
Meanwhile, Italian investments in the UAE have grown by more than 50% over the past five years, and bilateral trade has exceeded $14 billion, making Italy the UAE’s top trading partner within the European Union.
In this context, Italy’s Ambassador to the UAE, Lorenzo Fanara, stated: “We are witnessing a qualitative transformation in the economic relationship between our countries. Cooperation now extends beyond traditional trade to include long-term strategic investments in key sectors shaping the future of the global economy.”
The official visit of UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan to Italy further reinforced this strategic alignment. Ambassador Fanara described the visit as a milestone in the history of bilateral relations, noting it was the first official visit by a UAE President to Italy.
One of the key outcomes of the visit was the signing of over 40 bilateral agreements, including strategic partnerships in artificial intelligence and data centers. A letter of intent was also signed between UAE-based companies MGX and G42 and Italian energy giant Eni to jointly develop AI infrastructure, reflecting the shared commitment to technological innovation.
Additionally, the visit witnessed the signing of a trilateral agreement between the UAE, Italy, and Albania to cooperate on clean energy projects; further underscoring both nations’ commitment to sustainable energy transition and reducing carbon emissions. Ambassador Fanara highlighted that “these agreements reflect a shared vision for building a more sustainable future.”
