Abu Dhabi Department of Energy Launches Strategic Initiatives at World Utilities Congress 2025

    May 26, 2025Updated:July 29, 20252 Mins Read

The Abu Dhabi Department of Energy has announced its participation as a key supporter of the World Utilities Congress 2025, taking place from May 27 to 29 at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre, organized by Abu Dhabi National Energy Company (TAQA).

This year’s congress is themed “Innovation for a New Era in Utilities” and serves as a leading international platform that brings together decision-makers, experts, and innovation leaders from the global energy and water sectors. The event aims to explore future trends and showcase cutting-edge solutions that promote energy and water supply security and sustainability.

Under the slogan “Energy, Prosperity, Sustainability,” the Department’s pavilion featured a range of pioneering projects, policies, and strategies, most notably Abu Dhabi’s Energy Sector Ambition 2050. It also spotlighted the “Industrial Energy Efficiency Accelerators” project, aimed at fast-tracking the adoption of energy-saving solutions in the industrial sector through performance assessments and local capacity-building. Another key highlight is the “Cooling-as-a-Service” initiative, a new model for delivering building cooling services without the need for equipment purchase or maintenance; contributing to significant reductions in energy consumption and carbon emissions.

Visitors were also introduced to Phase II of the Demand Response Program, designed to encourage commercial and industrial entities to reduce electricity consumption during peak hours. This initiative enhances grid reliability and reduces both costs and emissions. For 2025, the Department has set a target of cutting peak demand by 300 megawatts.

During the event, the Department unveiled its smart platform (AD.WE), developed in partnership with AIQ and Presight. This integrated platform utilizes AI to manage diverse energy sources; solar, nuclear, and hydrocarbons, within a unified operational system. It promises to reduce response times by 30%, cut manual reporting by 70%, and maintain 100% supply reliability.

Adding a unique touch to the Department’s showcase is WOTA, a Japanese company presenting innovative water recycling solutions for resource-scarce regions. Products on display include the WOSH portable handwashing station using recycled water, and the WOTA BOX, a mobile shower unit that recycles over 98% of the water used.

The Department’s participation also included the signing of cooperation agreements with several global leaders in the energy and water sectors for new development projects, reflecting Abu Dhabi’s and its partners’ commitment to practical, sustainable solutions that align with local and global sustainability goals.
