The Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC) has reported a significant 35% growth in total gross written insurance premiums in 2024, reaching $3.5 billion, underscoring its growing role as a major hub for the insurance and reinsurance industry in the region.
As part of the Dubai World Insurance Congress 2025, DIFC is hosting the largest-ever gathering of insurance and reinsurance professionals, welcoming 1,700 participants from 82 countries, according to a press release issued today. This wide participation reinforces DIFC’s position as the region’s only specialized platform for the insurance and reinsurance sector. More than 6,000 business meetings have been scheduled during the event to facilitate deal-making and strategic partnerships.
This year’s congress also saw a sharp rise in attendance compared to the 2024 edition, which had attracted 1,300 participants, reflecting the growing momentum of the insurance and reinsurance activities within DIFC.
In her opening remarks, Alya Al Zarouni, Chief Operating Officer of the DIFC Authority, emphasized that the increase in gross written premiums from $2.6 billion to $3.5 billion during 2024 highlights the Centre’s ongoing efforts to foster a dynamic and thriving business environment for the insurance sector.
During the first day of the congress, DIFC, in collaboration with research partner Asia House, unveiled an exclusive report titled “Building Resilience: Opportunities for the Global Insurance Sector,” which outlined significant opportunities for insurance and reinsurance companies to bridge the gap between insured and uninsured assets and attract new investments.
Arif Amiri, CEO of the DIFC Authority, stressed that DIFC’s strategic location, progressive and balanced regulatory environment, and the UAE’s visionary leadership have been instrumental in strengthening Dubai’s status as a major hub for insurance companies. This is clearly reflected in the record 35% surge in gross written premiums achieved in 2024.
Today, DIFC hosts more than 125 companies operating in the insurance and reinsurance sector, encouraging them to capitalize on the insights and opportunities highlighted in the Centre’s first comprehensive global report on the insurance sector’s future prospects.
