Mubadala Investment Company, based in Abu Dhabi, has announced a new strategic investment in PCI Pharma Services, a global leader in outsourced pharmaceutical development and manufacturing with a focus on innovative biologics.
This investment is part of a joint strategic transaction led by Bain Capital and current majority investor Kohlberg, with Partners Group continuing its minority support.
Mubadala’s latest move builds on its initial investment in PCI alongside Kohlberg in 2020. Over the past five years, PCI has successfully launched over 450 products and expanded its 50-year legacy in pharmaceutical services, supporting innovation and improving patient access to advanced therapies.
Camilla Languille, Co-Head of Private Equity at Mubadala, stated: “PCI is one of our strongest healthcare investments. It demonstrates how long-term, visionary investors and strong leadership teams can accelerate growth, create value, and improve patient outcomes globally. We remain committed to similar opportunities in the sector, especially as pharma companies increasingly outsource critical non-core functions.”
Mina Hamoodi, Head of Healthcare at Mubadala, added: “Our reinvestment reflects our deep confidence in PCI’s leadership and long-term potential. We are excited to welcome Bain Capital as a partner and look forward to working closely with them, Kohlberg, and PCI’s world-class management during this next phase of growth.”
The new capital will enable PCI to pursue both organic and inorganic expansion, including service diversification and geographic reach. As demand for biologics and specialty drugs grows, PCI will invest in sterile injectable packaging, high-potency drug manufacturing, and specialized technologies, particularly in the U.S., strengthening its domestic pharmaceutical infrastructure and supply chains.
