Abu Dhabi National Energy Company “TAQA” has announced the full acquisition of Transmission Investment (TI), a UK-based energy and utilities investment platform.
TI is one of the UK’s leading operators of offshore electricity transmission assets, connecting offshore wind farms to the national grid. As a result of the acquisition, TI will now become part of “TAQA Transmission,” the newly rebranded subsidiary of the TAQA Group responsible for developing and operating high-voltage power and large-scale water transmission infrastructure.
This strategic move marks TAQA’s official entry into the UK electricity transmission sector. It provides a launchpad for expansion into broader European and global markets, leveraging the company’s leadership in utility infrastructure.
Since its establishment in 2009, TI has built a strong presence in offshore transmission, managing a portfolio of 11 assets valued at approximately AED 15 billion (GBP 3 billion). Through a longstanding partnership with Amber Infrastructure and International Public Partnerships (INPP), TI has maintained a strong track record in competitive bidding, securing around 40% of the tenders it has pursued.
Just last week, the UK’s energy regulator Ofgem selected this consortium as the preferred bidder for the offshore transmission project in the Moray West zone.
TI is also a key developer of interconnector projects regulated by Ofgem, including the FAB Link and LirIC projects, which will connect the UK to France and Northern Ireland through new subsea high-voltage direct current (HVDC) links with a combined capacity of approximately 2 gigawatts.
