The United Arab Emirates topped the list of crude oil exporters to Japan in April 2025, supplying Tokyo with 34 million barrels, according to official Japanese data.
This volume accounted for 45.5% of Japan’s total oil imports for the month, as reported by the Agency for Natural Resources and Energy under Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry.
In total, Japan imported 74.77 million barrels of crude oil in April. Arab countries dominated Japan’s oil imports, providing 94.1% (equivalent to 70.40 million barrels) of the total supply. These imports came from the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Oman, and Sudan.
Following the UAE, Saudi Arabia ranked second with 27.10 million barrels (36.3%). Qatar contributed 5.25 million barrels (7%), followed by Kuwait with 2.79 million barrels (3.7%). Oman accounted for 1.2%, while Sudan supplied 0.4%.
The remaining oil imports came from non-Arab sources, including the United States (3.9%), Ecuador (1.4%), Brunei (0.2%), and Oceania (0.1%).
