UAE Signs MoUs with Spain and Morocco to Boost Industrial Property Cooperation

    July 13, 2025Updated:July 13, 20252 Mins Read

The UAE Ministry of Economy and Tourism has signed two Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with the Spanish Patent and Trademark Office and the Moroccan Office of Industrial and Commercial Property. The agreements aim to strengthen cooperation in intellectual property (IP) development in the UAE, aligned with international best practices.

    Strategic Collaboration for IP Development

The MoUs were signed in the presence of H.E. Abdulla bin Touq Al Marri, Minister of Economy and Tourism, during the UAE delegation’s participation in the 66th Assemblies of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in Geneva.

The agreements encompass several key areas, including digital transformation, talent development, and enhanced coordination in industrial property and patent registration. The partnerships also aim to leverage advanced technologies, such as artificial intelligence, in patent search and classification processes.

    Enhancing Innovation and Legal Frameworks

Minister bin Touq emphasized the UAE’s ongoing efforts to create a robust IP ecosystem and deepen global partnerships. He noted that collaboration with Spain and Morocco marks a significant step in exchanging technical expertise, improving registration processes, and adopting modern compliance standards.

The MoU with Spain focuses on knowledge exchange, supporting R&D and innovation, and localizing emerging technologies. It also includes specialized training for patent examiners and joint workshops targeting SMEs and industry stakeholders.

The agreement with Morocco aims to institutional knowledge sharing, legal harmonization, and public awareness campaigns. A joint working group will oversee implementation and provide technical support to ensure effective institutional coordination and progress toward shared goals.
