Strategic Dialogue at IFSA Africa
The UAE Ministry of Economy and Tourism, in coordination with the UAE Embassy in Tunisia, hosted the “UAE–Tunisia Agriculture and Food Forum” during the IFSA Africa exhibition. The event aimed to deepen economic ties in food industries, agricultural technologies, and value chain development. Attendees included Minister Abdulla bin Touq Al Marri, UAE Ambassador Dr. Eman Al Salami, and officials from both governments and private sectors, along with global startups and key players like Emirates Bio Farm, IFFCO, and Islamic Food Company.
Focus on Food Security and Innovation
Minister bin Touq highlighted the shared commitment to food security and sustainable agriculture. He emphasized the UAE’s focus on building strategic partnerships in agri-tech, local production, and sustainable practices. He also noted that the UAE is shifting toward economic clusters, with the food cluster integrating agriculture, manufacturing, and technology to boost competitiveness.
Platform for Investment and Knowledge Exchange
The forum facilitated business meetings and panel sessions between Emirati and Tunisian companies. The meetings tackled opportunities in smart farming, food processing, packaging technologies, and logistics. Participants explored collaboration in research, innovation, and emerging trends, such as vertical farming and alternative proteins.
Strong Sector Growth in the UAE
The UAE’s food sector grew notably in 2024, contributing around 11% to non-oil GDP, up from 10% in 2023. Food system revenues are projected to reach up to $40 billion. The food and beverage manufacturing segment is expected to maintain 5.1% annual growth through 2028.
Shared Vision, Expanding Opportunities
Ambassador Al Salami praised the depth of UAE–Tunisia relations, underscoring the UAE’s leadership in food innovation. She called the forum a key platform for joint investments and future cooperation in food security and agri-tech.
